Lori Motokado is a Japanese-Canadian artist. She was born in the Kootenays, raised in the Kamloops interior and currently lives in the Coquitlam, a suburb of Vancouver.
Recognizing her love of painting and drawing, her parents enrolled her in private oil painting lessons at the young age of 9. For 8 years she attended class until she switched her medium to watercolour.
Lori is a self taught watercolourist through trial and error, and inspired by the challenges and beauty of the medium Lori has developed her own technique.
Throughout her academic career Lori continued to paint. She finally graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Ba in History, and a Certificate in Liberal Arts, and later with a Certificate in Mechanical Architectural drafting from Vancouver Community College. These academic influences can be seen in her subject choices and her unique style which balances her love detail with an Asian simplicity aesthetic. Fascinated by the history of her subjects, she captures the subject's story or history. Many of her subjects be they boats, or antiques were discovered during her many road trips through B.C., and visits to the province's community museums.
Lori continues to explore the world, capturing stories, and images, and of course painting.
